On March 3rd the girls powerlifting team competed for a chance to make it to state. Bryanna Surovik came so close, but unfortunately was just edged out at the very end. Keyanah Crowl, Savannah Eschete, and Hailey Porter all set personal records in their lifts, but came up short as well on their goals of qualifying for state. Annzleigh Galbreath unfortunately did not complete the meet as she scratched out on squat. At a meet with nearly 400 girls competing, we did very well and will build back stronger for next year! On March 5th the boys powerlifting team won the team competition and were crowned the Region 4 Division 4 Team Champions out of 23 schools!! Herschel Conway and Verkobe Woodberry each took 1st and set 4 regional records apiece. Caden Espinosa finished 2nd and set the regional bench press and deadlift records. Caleb Hanks and Richard Rivera-Espinoza each took 4th and both had a chance to make it to state but came up just short on their final deadlifts. Andrew Vasquez and Jashawn Jones took 5th place each and Andrew had the best squat on the team at 535 pounds. Canyon Surovik finished 8th, improving his placing by 4 spots, and Payton Sprouse finished 10th in arguably the most competitive weight class in the state. I am so proud of how far we have come from my first year having one lifter to this year qualifying 12 for regionals! Verkobe, Herschel, and Caden will be lifting at state in Abilene on March 25 with all of them having a great chance to medal or even win. Community support for all of these boys has been great, now let's finish this season off with a bang! Best, Coach Ethan Watson
