What Do School Boards Do?
A: Local school board responsibilities can be grouped into five categories:
-Adopt goals and priorities and monitor success.
-Adopt policies and review for effectiveness.
-Hire and evaluate the superintendent.
-Adopt a budget and set a tax rate.
-Communicate with the community.

Congratulations to five members of the Somerville Band for being selected to the TMEA / ATSSB All-Region Middle School Band. The contest was held on Saturday, December 14th at Smithville High School. There were over thirty schools represented by 700 students. in this rigorous individual try-out. The following Somerville students were chosen:
Faith Fernandez - Bb Soprano Clarinet - Symphonic (1st) Band
Mason Novosad - Cornet / Trumpet - Concert (2nd) Band
Ariana Zamora Ramirez - Tenor Trombone - Concert Band
Ethan Ramirez - Baritone / Euphonium - Concert
Corbin Neuendorff - Tuba - Concert.
These students will rehearse and perform in the All-Region Clinic / Concert from January 24th - 25th, 2025. Congratulations again to these fine musicians!
