Congrats to our boys and our girls team on a great showing at the Rice Consolidated Swamp Strength meet! SHS Powerlifting!!! The girls were led by Kyra Watson with a 1st place finish in her weight class. Hailey Porter was 2nd, Keyanah Crowel and Bree Surovik were 3rd, and Marilyn Guinn was 6thin their respective weight classes. Those results contributed to a 3rd place team finish! Our boys team was led by Herschel Conway and Verkobe Woodberry with 1st place finishes. Jeremiah Teague received 2nd and Deven Green was 6th. These results led to a 4th place finish as the smallest boys team at the meet. This was our very first powerlifting meet as a Somerville team and I could not be more proud of all 9 competitors. They fought their tails off to get every lift! Best, Coach Watson

1-19-21 Somerville 31 VS Mumford 52 Points: Brandyn Carter 7 Arvis Burns 6 Verkobe Woodberry 6 Dominic Tucker 6 Johnny Legg 4 Gardner Shivers 2 Notes: Mumford is a good team and they controlled the tempo of the game. Their defense was very strong and forced us to shoot a horrible percentage from the field. Although we are disappointed in our loss we are still proud to be sitting at 2-1 in the district standings. There are two more games in the first round of district. Next game Friday at Iola 7 PM. Huge game for us. Coach Billy Ramey

1-15-21: Somerville 66 vs Burton 40 Points: Arvis Burns 20 Verkobe Woodberry 15 Brandyn Carter 12 Johnny Legg 7 Dominic Tucker 7 Gardner Shivers 2 Herschel Conway 2 Julian Frayre 1 Game notes: up 16-4 at the end of the 1st quarter and never looked back. All-Brazos country guard Junior Arvis Burns shows again what makes him such a special guard. He scored 20 points to lead all scorers and he provided us with the leadership that we needed. Junior guard Verkobe Woodberry scored 15 points while handing out a number of assists and like always playing defense vs the other team's best perimeter player. Having Junior Guard Johnny Legg back has taken our team to another level. Johnny is so valuable to our team because he provides us with so much. Perfect glue guy. He holds our team together. Sophomore guard and team's leading scorer, Brandyn Carter, scored 12 points while making 3 thee point FGs. Brandyn has been our most consistent scorer all season. He is so talented and he isn't even close to the player that he will become. It was great seeing our freshmen Gardner Shivers & Herschel Conway step-up. Somerville 2-0 in district Next game Tuesday 1-19-21 Mumford @ Somerville 7:30 PM. We are very proud to be 2-0 going into week 2 of district. We look forward to the challenge of playing Mumford & Iola this coming week. Thank you. Coach Billy Ramey

Good afternoon fellow Yeguas. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. It is a privilege to drive a vehicle to school instead of riding the bus. There is adequate parking behind the administration building that would hold everyone if people would park correctly. Unfortunately, some students have parked and blocked the alley that caused garbage truck access issues. The large truck couldn't make it through the alleyway to complete their trash pickups. So now you either park behind the administration building or on the old tennis courts from this point on. Drivers, please be considerate of your classmates and park appropriately. Thank You for your Cooperation. SRO-Stoneham

1-12-21 Somerville 47 VS Snook 42 Points: Brandyn Carter 11 Arvis Burns 11 Dominic Tucker 10 Johnny Legg 7 Verkobe Woodberry 6 Jesus Espinoza 2 Notes: It is always a good night when we beat our rivals, Snook. This is the back to back wins vs Snook. I am so proud of our young men. We stayed focused and played together. It has been awesome having our entire team at all of our practices leading up to the game and at the game. This entire season we have dealt with multiple injuries and illnesses. We never trailed in the game. Snook is a talented team and of course they made a run and made the game very close and competitive. Brandyn Carter led us in scoring like he always does. Brandyn's driving basket in the 4th was huge. He is only scratching the surface on how good of a player he will be. Our juniors, all three are 3-year starters, Arvis Burns, Verkobe Woodberry, and Johnny Legg all played well for us. It was only the 4th time this season the three have played together this season. Johnny has been dealing with an injury and having to miss some time with the team. This was the best game of the season for all Brazos county player, Arvis Burns. He provided the type of play we are accustomed to. He played a great floor game and his defense was impressive in the 1st half. Arvis has been dealing with an injury and illness throughout the season. DominicTucker stepped up with 10 points and played valuable minutes for us inside. Verkobe Woodberry always makes winning plays. Next game Friday at Burton. (No Fans allowed) Coach Billy Ramey
