Somerville High School students had to try to identify cooking and chemical substances without knowing the label. They could not touch or feel the substances. Today's topic was on the importance of properly labeling food and chemicals.

You know learning is taking place when students are collaborating to find an answer. Our first year teacher, Ms. Sturdevant, had students work together on an assignment after reading a poem about Texas. Some students had never heard of some of the towns in Texas until today.

SECONDARY SCHOOL PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION The SSPTO works together with school staff and parents to provide opportunities for students to qualify for scholarships, and to build collaboration between SHS staff, parents, and students in an effort to help our students be successful. Our meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of the Month at 5:30 p.m. in the Band Hall. We help every year in the football concession stand alongside the Band Booster Club. The concession stand is an opportunity for SSPTO to raise needed funds to support our efforts. While it is not the only fundraiser we implement throughout the year, it is the most labor intensive and we cannot achieve it without you! We have five HS varsity games at home and five JH games at home. I am providing the dates of those games below in hopes that we have some volunteers to sign up. SSPTO offers scholarships to our seniors that apply and have parents that attend at least 2-SSPTO Meetings and have worked either 2-Varsity Football games OR 3-JH Football games in the concession stand. 9-10-21 Varsity vs Jewett Leon 7PM 9-17-21 Varsity vs Huntsville 7PM 9-23-21 JH Game 10-01-21 Varsity vs Iola ( Homecoming) 7PM 10-07-21 JH Game 10-15-21 Varsity vs Snook 7PM 10-21-21 JH Game 10-28-21 JH Game 11-5-21 Varsity vs Granger (Parent Night) 7PM Our goal is to build meaningful relationships between our SHS staff, parents, and students. Can we count on you to make this happen? Please contact nstevens@somervilleisd.org if you would like to join our organization, or if you would like to volunteer some of your time in our concession stand. You may also reach Mrs. Stevens at 979-596-2153 with any questions you may have. Next Meeting: September 20th @ 5:30 PM in the Band Hall.
