To Our Guests; Welcome,
To Our Students, Parents, Community Members, and Alumni; Welcome Back,
Spring Break has come and gone and we are now fully in the middle of testing season. Our 3rd, 5th, and 8th graders took the reading portion of the TAKS test, our 4th and 7th graders took the writing portion of the TAKS test, our 9th and 10th graders took the reading or ELA portion of the TAKS test, and our exit level students had another opportunity to retake either Math, ELA, Science, or Social Studies exit TAKS. All of this took place in early March right before Spring Break. The remainder of the testing will take place in April and into May as we head toward the end of school and graduation.
Our high school faculty, staff, and students are getting ready for not only the testing season, but for prom, for all the banquets, and for graduation. Many of our student organizations district-wide are anticipating field trips this spring as supplements to instruction or rewards for academic performance, great behavior, or great attendance.
We are about half-way through softball, baseball, golf, and tennis and look forward to our high school track meet on March 27th. We wish our one-act play good luck as it puts itself on display at the district meet in Hempstead on March 26th.
Finally, the Board of Trustees and I assure the Somerville ISD community that we are continuing to evaluate and assess the result of the independent testing done in our schools, and will be discussing and devising a course of action the remainder of this spring and into the summer. Please refer to the original press release and the information contained therein. We wholeheartedly continue to believe that our schools are safe for students and staff, and any isolated concerns will be addressed appropriately. We appreciate your understanding on this issue.
Have a great spring and please let us know how we may better serve you.
Sincerely,
Charles Camarillo
Superintendent
