![]() ![]() The Somerville Junior High competed in the District 26 AA Cross Country Meet on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007 in Franklin. The school was represented by Collin Holmes, Dylan Schnittger, Stuart Griffin and Jared Strickland. Collin ran very well finishing in the top 10 out of 54 runners. Jared, the lone 7th grader, placed 37th. On the left, Collin finishes strong and on the right the District Junior High Cross Country Team with Coach Harkins. Football

On Saturday, October 21 Lexington held the 26AA District JH High Volleyball tournament. The 7th grade team coached by Roxie Johnson and consisting of In the first game, they defeated Onalaska 25-9, 25-19. Offensive player of the game was Robinisha Feltus who had 11 points from serves. Defensive player of the game was Rachel Pack. In the second game the Lady Yeguas defeated New Waverly 25-11, 25-13. Offensive players of the game were: Brittanie Gaas and Robinisha Feltus who scored 8 points from serves, and Taylor Gonzales who scored 7 points. Again Rachel Pack was the defensive player of the game. In the champion ship game against Franklin the Lady Yeguas lost 20-25, 25-22, 13-25. This ends their season with an 11-2 overall record and 9-1 in district play. We may have lost the tournament in a very close game, but we still had the best record in district. On Monday, October 15, the Lady Yeguas hosted the Hearne Eagles. The 7A team had a fantasitc match beating Hearne in two games: 25-5 25-9. Brittanie Gaas started the first game serving 13 straight points, Robinisha Feltus scored 4 then Rachel Pack added 3. Hearne did not win a point from serving, the only points they won in the first game were from rally points. In the second game Gaas scored 16 straight points. Feltus had 2 while Pack added 3. Hearne earned 4 points from serves. These were great games with very few mistakes. Offensive players of the game were Brittanie Gaas and Robinisha Feltus. Defensive player of the game was Taylor Gonzales who made a great save in the second game. The 7A Lady Yeguas will enter the district tournament with a district record of 7-0. The district tournament will be be held on Saturday, October 20th in Lexington. On October 5, the Lady Yeguas hosted the Lexington Eagles. The 7B lost their first game 17-25 18-25. They just didn't have their heads in the game, they missed too many serves and just couldn't get into it. Also several were missing because of illness. This brings their record to 3-1. Overall player of the game was Morganne Courtright. She played an outstanding defensive and offensive game serving 5 points. Randi Batts scored 7 with serves making her the offensive player of the game. The 7A pulled out a close one winning in three. 25-20 9-25 25-14. They were a little shaky in the second game not being able to break serve, but came through in the third game never letting Lexington in the game. Stephanie Piwonka, Vicky Roehling, and Brittanie Gaas are Offensive players of the game with Piwonka and Roehling scoring 7 points with serves and Gaas scoring 10. Defensive player is Brittanie Gaas who was all over the court leaping and diving to save balls. The 7A's record is 8-1 and their district record is 6-0. They will host Hearne next Monday, October 15. On Monday, October 8 the Lady Yeguas hosted the Onalaska Wildcats. Both the 7A and 8A were victorious. The 7A played an outstanding game winning 25-11 and 25-19. Brittanie Gaas scored 17 points from serves and Taylor Gonzales scored 9 points earning both these players the outstanding offensive players of the game. This brings the Lady Yegua 7A to 5-0 in district play and 7-1 overall. The 8A also played a great game defeating the Wildcats 25-15 and 25-14. Outstanding offensive players were Kali Casey with 9 points from serves and Katy Blancher with 12 points. The 8A district record is 2-3 and overall is 2-5. On Monday, September 24 the Lady Yeguas traveled to Trinity to play volleyball. The 7B won in two 20-15, 25-14. Lydia Orozco and Karen Kempenich are the outstanding players. They had great serving games scoring 7 points each with their serves. Record 3-0 7A also won in two: 25-17, 25-16. Outstanding offensive players were Stephanie Piwonka who scored 7 points from serves and Robinisha Feltus scoring 10 points. Brittanie Gaas was the defensive player of the game. Overall Record 6-1. District Record 4-0 On Saturday, September 22, the Lady Yegua 7th grade team traveled to Brazos for an 8 team tournament. The Lady Yeguas lost their first game in a very close battle 21-25, 25-15, 12-15. In their second match they defeated Tidehaven 25-14, 25-21. In the consolation game the Lady Yeguas defeated Van Vleck 25-17 25-19. They brought home the Consolation trophy. Outstanding players of the tournament were Brittanie Gaas who scored 34 points in the tournament with her serving plus had many great defensive plays. Also Taylor Gonzales scored 18 points. Robinisha Feltus and Vicky Roehling scored 14 points each. The girls played great as team and they are going to be a force to be reckoned with when they are in high school. It is a pleasure to coach these girls, they have so much talent and a great attitude. On Monday, Sept 10 the 7th grade A team traveled to Hearne for their 2nd district game. Somerville won in three: 25-22; 22-25; 25-18 It was a great game both team were very strong. Outstanding offensive players were Brittanie Gaas who served for 10 points. Rachel Bentke who served 8 points and Taylor Gonzales who also served for 8 points. The defensive player has to go to the entire team because they fought hard and never gave up. Their district record is now 2-0. Somerville JH 8th grade volleyball defeated Hearne Monday night, Sept 10, 2 games to 1. Kayli Casey and Katy Blancher did a great job serving the ball. Krystrina Guerrero served the match winning point. The ladies are now 1-1 on the young season. The JH 8th grade team is under the leadership of Coach John Harkins. The Somerville Lady Yeguas traveled to Lexington on Thursday, Sep. 6 for their first district volleyball game. The 7B and 7A team coached by Roxie Johnson won. 7B score: 20-13 23-8: The B team played great, especially for their first game. Outstanding offensive play by Braylyn Minor who scored 12 points from her serve. Also offensively, Vicky Roehling played well scoring 6 points from serves. Best defensive players of the night were Alex Winder and Gabby Tuck. 7A score: 25-23 25-23: This game was much closer. After trailing by several points in the first game we came back to win. In the second, game we lead most of the game. Offensive players were Brittanie Gaas who served 6 points in the game and Taylor Gonzales. Defensive goes to Brittanie Gaas who made some great saves in the game. The 7 grade athletes are a very strong group of girls. We are looking forward to a great season. Girl's Basketball
