Somerville competed in the 2007 Region IV Cross Country Meet in San Antonio-Brooks City-Base-Sat., Nov. 3, 2007

Varsity Boys(3.1 miles—5000 m) Steven Chuma-----33 out of 174 runners—time 18:20

Varsity Girls(2 miles---3200 m) Krystle Chuma-----110 out of 166 runners---time 15:12

Steven, a sophomore, almost tasted State as he was in 10 place at the 1 mile mark. He gave a great effort and finished 33 out of 174(beating 81% of the runners). Also, he was the 1st runner from our District 26AA to finish. Steven has a very bright future ahead in his junior and senior years.

Krystle, a freshman, gave a great effort. Regionals will give her great experience as her future also looks bright next year.

Krystle and Steven Chuma have really done a great job and have improved their times at each meet and are looking forward to district and regionals. Krystle Chuma, just a freshmen, has competed well with juniors and seniors in varsity competition and has a chance to go to regionals. Steven Chuma, a sophomore, has done an outstanding job, finishing 1st at the St, Joseph's meet (17:56 time--3 miles)in Bryan (Oct 6 ) and 2nd at Round- Top Carmine(time 16:44--3 miles) where he improved his time by 1:12 over his St Joseph time. Steven has a great chance to go to STATE!

The JH District 26 AA meet will be Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 5 pm at Oak Grove Country Club in Franklin. The HS District 26 AA meet will be on Monday, Oct. 22 at 10:00 am at the same place.

Saturday, September 8th - Somerville Lake Run. Congratulations to Steven Chuma in finishing 5th out of a pack approximately 80 runners.

Last year team of Cynthia Rodriguez and Steven Chuma advanced to the Regional meet in San Antonio. The runners this year are coached by Coach John Harkins. Good luck this year.
